Responsible drinking

About drinking alcohol

Abusive or excessive consumption of alcoholic drinks can pose health risks. Possible problems result from inappropriate consumption (by certain at-risk groups, such as minors, drivers and pregnant women) or from excessive or abusive drinking. For more information, consult your doctor.

Equivalences

All alcoholic drinks, whatever their strength or production method, contain the same type of alcohol: ethanol. What matters for your health is the amount of alcohol you drink, not the type of drink. Served the usual way, a small glass of beer contains more alcohol than a cream or a liqueur, and a gin and tonic has the same amount of alcohol as a 33 cl beer or a glass of reserva wine.

Responsible drinking guidelines

  • Drink slowly, enjoying the drink and the moment.
  • Alternate alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks.
  • Eat while you drink alcohol.
  • Learn to tell the nuances apart and enjoy the character that its production method and origin give each drink.

And remember

  • Don't drink and drive. Choose a designated driver.
  • Minors cannot and must not drink alcohol. It is everyone’s duty to prevent it.
  • If you are pregnant, do not drink any kind of alcohol. It can harm the development of the foetus.
  • Take extra care if you are on medication. Alcohol may change the effect of the drugs.
  • Learn about alcoholic drinks. They all contain the same type of alcohol, ethanol, and there are many myths about drinking.
  • Know your limits*. Never drink to excess.

Recycling glass packaging

CapYellow bin
BottleGreen bin (glass)

Recycling glass packaging is key to fighting climate change and protecting the environment. It is also driven by citizens, the real engine of change. That is why it is closely linked to the UN 2030 Agenda and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) for fair and sustainable development. With a gesture as simple as taking your glass packaging to the bin, you help us reach goals as important as these and protect the environment. Be part of the change!

Separating your glass packaging for the green bin may seem a small gesture, but added to that of many other people, it has a huge positive effect on the environment.

Environmental benefits of recycling glass packaging

Recycling glass packaging is a key element in fighting climate change and decarbonising our economy. It is also essential for the transition to a more circular model of development rooted in the 2030 Agenda. Thanks to glass recycling in Spain, emissions of 587,432 tonnes of CO2 were avoided, equivalent to flying around the world along the equator 149 times.

In a context of energy crisis, making new glass packaging from recycled glass (cullet) saves energy and avoids extracting raw materials. In this way, 723,351 MWh of energy were saved; the yearly energy saving from glass recycling is worth around 147.92 million euros.

Separate collection of glass packaging is a constantly evolving success story. Thanks to the packaging placed in the bottle banks, it has been possible to:

  • Avoid emitting almost 9 million tonnes of CO2, equivalent to flying around the world along the equator 2,268 times.
  • Save 11,037,281 MWh of energy, equivalent to the electricity used by all hospitals in Spain over 2.5 years.
  • Avoid extracting more than 18 million tonnes of raw materials, equivalent to 1,836 times the weight of the Eiffel Tower.
